North Carolina Heritage is More Than Confederate Heritage

May 5, 2016fbpowellNews

It is easy to focus on the loss and destruction of North Carolina’s Confederate heritage because it is most often under attack and is the most currently controversial. However, have you considered the efforts of the NC Heritage PAC are on behalf of ALL of North Carolina’s heritage?

As we have seen on the national level, even figures like Andrew Jackson have become the focus of those wishing to re-write history. His famous equestrian statue in New Orleans is being removed and his face is being taken off the twenty dollar bill! This is a man who was not only one of our nation’s most important presidents but in terms of the City of New Orleans, literally and miraculously saved the city from total destruction by the British in 1814. New Orleans is only too happy to forget that now.

So what and who is next? Certainly George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, and others who we have rightfully revered for generations are on the chopping block next. What of the brave men we lost in Vietnam and Korea? How long before their sacrifice is looked at as a crime? Will the National Vietnam Veterans Memorial suffer the same fate tomorrow that Confederate monuments are suffering today?

We are undergoing a period in our state and nation where the perversion of minds by public education and deliberate misinformation is quickly distorting proud legacies into abject shame. We need your help to stop this process wherever we can in North Carolina — donate today!!
